F Series Features
- Brilliant PID
- Enhanced autotuning
- Bar graph display
- Programmable input
The F Series of temperature and process controllers have been designed for precise control with user-friendly operation. A bar graph display unit has been added for easy and prompt readout of the output status or the deviation from the set point. These controllers feature PID autotuning, programmable input, self-diagnosis functions, FAIL output and a great deal more.
The field-programmable input of the F Series includes internal hardware to support the following: thermocouple and RTD inputs, DC mV, DC V, and DC mA. Within each input group, the input type can also be configured.
The F Series utilizes Brilliant PID control with enhanced autotuning and performs control at a fast sampling time of 0.25 seconds at a high accuracy of 0.1% FS. The F Series provide three levels of operation: set point change only, set point and tuning parameters only and the engineering level.
The availability of these various levels is useful in suppressing the display of unnecessary setup parameters. Programming functions are easily accomplished through the front panel. The F Series, with its accurate and fast-response, is an excellent choice for temperature and process control applications that require tight tolerances.
PV bias
PV bias is an input correction function. For example, if the PV bias value is two degrees and the actual value is 98 degrees, the controller displays 100 degrees.
Enhanced Autotuning
The new PID autotuning method uses AT bias with an improved calculation method.
Bar Graph Display
At-a-glance monitoring of output and process status.
Programmable Input
Input type is field-configurable within the same input group.
Brilliant PID
The F Series use Brilliant PID and enhanced autotuning to maximize PID tuning. In conventional PID, if the values are selected to insure the best response to process upsets, start-up response or response-to-set point changes are likely to be compromised. Conversely, if the PID values are set to minimize start-up time or response to set point changes, then the controller will respond to process upsets with less than desired results. However, with Brilliant PID, the controller can respond to all situations with maximum results. Brilliant PID allows for quick response to process upsets and allows you to select a response (Slow, Medium or Fast) to match the process during start-up or set point changes. Brilliant PID combines the optimum PID values with a fast and accurate response to both operation upsets and process changes. For additional information, see the Brilliant PID section of Control Theory.
Control Response
The control response parameter has three types of response (Fast, Medium and Slow). If quick response is required, Fast is recommended. If overshoot is critical, Slow is recommended.
Alarm Delay
The alarm delay function is used to delay the alarm action. If the alarm state is released during this delay period, the alarm output will not be activated. External disturbances such as noise, may cause a momentary increase of a process value into the alarm area. The alarm delay function prevents alarm output in these cases. (Setting range: 0~600 seconds).
Memory Area
Eight separate memory areas are available to store groups of PID values in memory. The parameters that can be stored are main set point, proportional band, integral time, derivative time, control response and alarm settings. When the set point is changed, other parameters can be easily modified by changing the memory area. For additional information, see the Memory Area Section of Control Theory.
Surface Mount Technology
For greater reliability, the F Series instruments are manufactured using surface mount technology on the printed circuit board instead of through-hole technology.
