S Series Features Controllers

  • Easy-to-control and program
  • Cost effective
  • Field-configurable T/C types, alarms, °C/°F
  • PID autotuning
  • Break and Heater Break Alarm
  • Easy-to-set up and program

The S Series controllers are a cost effective solution featuring PID autotuning, integral hour totalization meter and ammeter with optional HBA. The S Series provides simplified menus and prompts at the touch of a key requiring minimal technical knowledge and is particularly applicable for the plastics, food processing, packaging and thermal industries.

PID or ON/OFF Control
When PID control is not desired, an S Series control can be programmed not to display the P, I and D constants. Instrument operation is simplified with the elimination of unwanted information.

Programmable 5 Position Deviation Display Lamp
The Deviation Display Lamp provides at-a-glance indication of value deviation between the present temperature and the set temperature.

Autotuning
The S Series will compute optimum PID values at the touch of a button.

Set Point or Process Value Default
The S Series display can be programmed to automatically revert to the set point or process value display. All other settings can be viewed, however, the default is displayed after one minute of inactivity.

Wide Supply Voltage Range
The S Series can be operated from 85~264VAC, 50/60Hz power supply and is UL Recognized and CSA Certified. As an option, 24VAC or 24VDC is available.

Totalization Hour Meter
The non-resettable totalization hour meter records actual hours of operation. It is useful to determine the need for scheduled maintenance or for recording total machine hours.

Ambient Peak Temperature HOLD
The ambient peak temperature HOLD function monitors and holds the peak temperature value for the interior of the control cabinet. It is useful for determining when the cabinet is exceeding certain temperature requirements or if additional cabinet ventilation is required.

Inputs / Outputs
The S Series will accept seven different field-configurable thermocouple-type inputs...K, J, E, T, U, L and N. RTD inputs are also available. Relay contact and voltage pulse outputs are available with the S Series.

Alarms
Loop Break Alarm (LBA)
The LBA monitors and protects an entire temperature control system. LBA can detect heater breaks, thermocouple or RTD failures, short circuits, or the failure of an operating device such as a mechanical relay, mercury relay, or a SSR.

Alarm Logic
The alarm logic feature adds to the ease-of-use and versatility of the S Series. The optional alarm relays of the S Series can be programmed to be any two of the following:

  • Temperature Alarm
  • Loop Break Alarm
  • Heater Break Alarm (when specified)

Temperature Alarms
The S Series features easy-to-program temperature alarms. These temperature alarms can be:

  • Deviation Alarms (High, Low, High/Low, Band)
  • Process Alarms (High, Low)
  • Heater Break Alarm (HBA)

HBA detects failures in the heater output circuit. The HBA is able to detect these failures by monitoring the load current through the use of an external current transformer, thus eliminating the need for an external ammeter. The control will close this relay contact when the load current falls below a threshold value that has been set by the operator.
